Dr Barad, birth and coming into prominence are
obviously not the same. Due attention was of course
given to the secular nature of the country in the
preamble to the Constitution.
But the recent activities targetted against Muslims
and Christians in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar
Pradesh, Rajasthan and Orissa put the word 'secular'
as enshrined in the Constitution back into focus.
Before that the word was hardly ever discussed.
