Tiatr Day 2007
Kala Academy Goa Celebrates Tiatr Day on 17th April every year since 1996.
On this day KA felicitates selected tiatr artistes for their lifetime
contribution to the
field of Tiatr..
This year too, 7 artistes were selected namely:

2. John Gomes (Kokoy)
(02.12.137 Panzarcone, Cumcolim)
3. Julio Rodrigues (Jr.Rod).. (ABSENT)
(Cortalim s/o Late Minguel Rod)
4. Ophelia Cabral DSousa
(08.11.1938 Ambirna/Socorro, Porvorim) see video clip
5. Cyriaco Dias
(16.03.1937, ambora Salcette)
6. Brazinho Soares
(ABSENT)
(24.10.1938, Kalapurkar)
7. Rico Rod
(1933 Sirlim, Chinchinim)
A the end of the ceremony, there was a special programe of Konkani Music by 28
members group
Mand Sobhann from Magalore led by Mr. Eric Ozario

On this Tiatr Day, KA also distributes various prizes in Tiatr competition,
Cantaram
Competition etc held during the prev. year.
Taking in accounts the Fist Frize, Second Prize, Third Prize amd Merit
Certificates in each
categories like Tiatr, Best Maee Actor, Best female Actor, Best Child Male
Actor, Best Child
female actor, Best comedy, Best Direction, Best Music, Best stage set up., Best
scenery.
Again, Fist/Second/Third price and Merit certificates to cantaram singers in
the category like
best solo singer male, best solo singer female, best duo singer, best trio
singer, best quarto
singers, child singer etc etc There could be over 100 certificates to give
away to over 100
different artistes.
This years audience was like this
75 Awardees (Prizes recipients, some did not turn up)
150 Their friends and family
25 was the actual audience for the Tiatr Day
15 Press
Total in all about 265.
(Mr. Desprabhu MLA & Vice Chairman KA, also made a mention of poor audience)
After the prize distribution, half of the 250 gone home without waiting for
the musical
programe and after about half an hour later there were less than 100 seen.
Some highlights:
-Ophelia in her speech said Miss Mohana, her sister, was the first female
artiste to act on
stage. Ophelia (see video clip) disclosed that the daughter of Late C Alvares
is making a film
titled DISON KUDDO AIKON BHERO
She as usual, finished her speech by singing a few line from the popular
patriotic song (see
video).
-Jr. Rod was not seen (it appears that he has boycotted the ceremony as his
father Minguel Rod
never honoured by the state Govt).
-Brazinho Soares was also absent (It seems, he is in the Gulf at present).
- Other tiatrist seen were Jessie Dias, Anil Kumar, Fatima & CD Silva.
-Cyriaco Dias said Govt. got one Key and Tomazin got another. He was refering
to the award
given to Late Alfred Rose. However, during his speech, Mr. Tomazinho clarified
that it was
wrong to say he ever had a key. He further disclosed that it was Mr. Parrikar
who, on the day
of the death of late Afred Rose, ordered to change the Domicile rule and so
that Late
Alfred Rose is given an award asap.
-Although there were 5+3 on the dais (including Phaldesai, Desprabhu & Tomazin)
there were
only 4 drinking water glasses on the table. All senior tiatr artistes were seen
sharing 3
glasses amongst themselves.
