Hi Kevin
Re the religionists, we have an unexpected problem in the UK. Large numbers
of Poles have arrived here among recent arrivals further to to the recent
expansion of the European Union. The UK is currently a huge magnet for jobs,
health care and social services and of course schooling/university etc. The sad
part is that the latest inflow of devout Catholic Poles is intensely racist
when it comes to adjusting to blacks and Asian people in the UK. Reports
indicate that they are 'offended' by non-white pupils and teachers in
classrooms when multiculturalism is an article of faith here.
It is well known sociologically that, religious people are often more
prejudiced against 'others' and those from minority cultures than secularists
and I had forseen and articulated my views on this problem when the Eastern
Europeans were free to enter the UK. There are many with 'Hitlerian' kind of
racial beliefs now descending on a fairly liberal Britain. Indeed, the Catholic
Churches with large Polish congregations have had to 'educate' the new Poles
about the unacceptability of their racist beliefs. Likewise, I wish this would
also happen to devout Catholic Goans who attend confessionals and church
regularly but strongly believe in the racism of caste.
