Dear Joe Goa, Thanks a lot for your beautiful Video images and the videography of Baina Beach Slums been demolished.. These ghetto images reminds me of the time gone by where we once lived in Vasco at Butia Batt and my cousins at Mangor Hill in the early 60's where our primary education at St. Xavier School in Portuguese began and my grandmother been buried at St. Andrew's Church cementary, but now the drastic changes of the topography in the area by the so called Land Sharks has corrupted everything including migration of outsiders forever squatting around the Baina Beaches is an eye sore and so on..
I remember as a young boy of eight years my younger brother and i used to learn riding bicycle and practically having a field day riding all over into towns and villages surrounding all of Vasco including Mangor Hill a beautiful sight to behold at that time where I even found a Gun at the military barracks that was left by Portuguese soldiers fleeing Goa at the time of liberation and also found a Big Can of Mackerel which I brought home opened it and all of us at home had a relishing meal including my mother, her brothers, sisters and my two brothers enjoyed to our hearts content. Riding bicycle we used to travel to Vasco Municipal Corporation where our maternal uncle worked and that was the first time we saw manual type-writer Remington been used by my uncle for his official work, From VMC we used to ride to our cousin office where he worked at the Burma Shell Oil Refinery as a director. But now that is a history. Vasco today, has immensely changed, devoid of the beautiful fringed lined palm trees and the long winding roads of old Portuguese town from Mangor hill right up to the Baina Beach. The beautiful small and big houses that people once lived are all gone but for few. We even used to go to Chowgules Bungalow, especially during Diwali and Ganesh Chaturti and take prasad that was offered here at that time, whose mother and father kept buffaloes and from where literally their business empire began from rags to riches story.. We even watched Vasco Football Team playing some local team at the Vasco Sports Ground next to locomotive engines that were kept in the Yard of Chowgules, I even met Bernard Pereira the Captain of Vasco football team and even had a chat with him including Andrew one of their football players, while they were travelling to Bombay from Goa where they had a match to be played with Mafatlal Mills. Bernard later joined Orkay football team in Bombay as captain. Well all these memories past and present are all reminiscent to the bygone era of yester years the then beautiful land called Goa much in contrast to the present one the past world withered and vanished into the Blue....WELL I STILL CARRY THESE VIVID IMAGES IN MY CEREBRAL CAMERA.. LONG LIVE GOA......
