Beef politics India is being increasingly intolerant towards beef eaters. The fringe elements are becoming vocal and emboldened after rise of BJP in power, Important political, party individuals are spreading hate, violence and murderous attempts with no accountability, That individuals do not reflect party policies is a myth, because they are not hauled up for insensitive, caustic, inflammatory and polarizing remarks. The murder in Dadri and attack on Muslim legislator in Jammu &Kashmir assembly is regressive to say the least. Congress boast of legislation of ban on cow slaughter 24 years ago, but implementation is being enforced militantly only during present BJP regime, quoting Constitution as Bible for selective purposes India is concentrating on all types of bans and other fissiparous issues that are not in consonance with progress and development being core issues demanding our focused attention as a priority
The P.M though otherwise very vocal is maintaining stoic silence on the these fringe elements, which are only bringing down the image of BJP. It is too late for him to quote the President and break his silence, BJP while condemning,it is loath at taking actions to reign in these elements, which obliquely are doing more harm to the national ruling party The world is laughing at India in 21 century, the way beef politics are whipped for political polarization Important politicians of ruling party make inflammatory remarks BJP though distances itself, but falls short of taking deterrent actions that sends a stiff message; Fringe groups, are emboldened to promote Hindutva agenda on the sly. , but militant approach on implementation now is doubtful, Very obliquely, the intention of hitting the muslim community being beef consumers and being principally in trade. These issues of pitching Muslim Vs Hindus are fraught with dangerous consequences of furthering communal divide. The hate, violence, murderous attempts, and intolerance is without precedents, Forcing food habits on others with threats is encroaching on freedom and entering the kitchens of communities. In Judaism and Islam pork is a a taboo , but is easily available and there are no such violent acts, in spite of being more fundamentalists. Cow slaughter ban was considered divine and alienated from its bovine nature more as a political appeasement of the majority community. True, cow provided economic advantages due to milk, dung being used as fuel and also as an insecticide. Chilren survived not only on cows milk, goat, buffaloes milk too, especially when mothers failed to do so, There were no ready made milk formulas then .Divinity was assigned to preserve cows with religious sanctions for better enforcement, Once the cow is not productive, it becomes a economic burden to owners, Hence cow bakts should come forward and maintain them, No body kills a mother, abandons her after her importance is diminished, but can cow considered sacred can be abandoned ?Is anyone concerned about the fact that the milk is primarily food for the calf. Do we not cheat the calf of its milk requirement, diverting it for human consumption? In prehistoric times man hunted animals for his food requirements, much before food gathering and organized agriculture practices. Food and dietary habits are controlled largely by geographical, economic, agricultural practices; The relevance of cow in industrial India has lost its relevance with use of mechanical implements, chemical fertilizers and other fuels. The concept and findings in the west moving towards vegetarianism and benefits on health and environment and green house effects of live stocks, heart ailments, cholesterol would be much more convincing and rational, rather than emphasizing divine nature of cow with both legal and political provisions India is being looked at ridiculously, becoming a laughing stock in th e world because of precedence and preponderance of beef politics, murders and bans in some states, even prohibition on possession of beef and beef products, murderous attacks on beef consumers. We want everyone to come to India and force our intolerant attitudes on food habits.P.M is on record stating sab ka vikas sab ke sat, Food habits are personal choices regulated by customs, traditions, availability and to some extent religious beliefs and we cannot go on wars with those who differ with us in their choices Nelson Lopes Chinchinim .
