United Goans Foundation announced the names of candidates who they believe, if elected, will work for the city of Margao-Fatorda. The Municipal Council is a body. UGF slams the actions of the tainted political entities like BJP, Congress who put up panels which essentially create divisions within the Council. “This also includes Vijay Sardessai’s Fatorda Forward panel which is in reality a panel that will help him put Fatorda For Sale, going by his other initiative of providing free Wifi, wherein he leased municipal land to Reliance” says UGF President Dr. Aashish Kamat. Municipal Council is different from the assembly and the parliament. There is no government and opposition, and all council members are supposed to be working together as a single unit. Development in any council is hampered when Municipal Council are divided on political affiliations.
United Goans Foundation has identified selected candidates who are sincere, dedicated and can make their own decisions. These people know the problem of their wards and have the potential of implementing solutions to the problems faced by the citizens of their respective ward and the city. If issues like the market, garbage, traffic, illegal encroachments, tax collection etc are not sorted n the next 5 years, any development will be virtually impossible.” says UGF Secretary Avinash Tavares. UGF hopes that the people vote for individuals who care for Margao-Fatorda and not for those who have taken an oath to service MLA’s and their initiative. UGF also warns the ruling government that if they hamper the development of the city just because citizens of Margao-Fatorda did not vote for their panel, UGF will intensify their efforts in exposing every inch of corruption in the DMA and other departments that have stalled development works in Margao City.
