LAWYERS OF GOA OWE THEIR SERVICES FOR PUBLIC RELATED CASES AFFECTING MOTHERLAND GOA The term of Dr. Satish Shetye Vice Chancellor of Goa University was to end on 25th October, 2015 as he attained the age of 65 years, which presently is the date of his superannuation. Our respected Governor of Goa had requested him to retire as per GoanUniversity statutes presently in force. Strangely the BJP Government of Laxmikant Parsekar changed the date and extended it through an emergency ordinance. This is extremely irregular as it gives signals that any Government changes alter University rules and regulations as per its whims and fancy to please their party supporters. What pains me more is that no Goan advocates woke up amongst the hundreds of lawyers churned out by the Law Colleges in Goa, each year? Our lawyers excel in making money by fleecing the common man and they do not consider it fit to take up public issues or social causes. Except for Goa Foundation and in particular to some extent Advocate Aires Rodrigues who do involve themselves in people related issues, the hundreds of lawyers in Goa only are visible on TV shows or in Courts settling or fixing cases, all to their personal advantage. What Goa Government did in the case of Goa University is wrong but what Goan lawyers are doing is far worse, as they could have pressurized the Goa Government to see no wrong is done the Goa University and would have supported the Governor Mridula Sinha to uphold her earlier decision and not bend under pressure from the Parsekar Government.
