Indian politics is truly the last refuge of scoundrels and heirs. Since we
have started not to choose between two criminals, nearly every major
political leader has started to offer us a choice between two heirs offering
us their own baby dynasty.
BJP which once fought a strident battle against the congress party's
dynastic politics have discovered the benefits of hereditary democracy is
now seen participating fully in the dynasty making e.g. in Uttar Pradesh we
have the heirs of Rajnath Singh, Kalyan Singh, Lalji Tandon all fighting to
keep the family business intact. In Punjab election nearly every new face of
every political party was an heir. Thus new Punjab government is almost a
Badal family affair. In Bihar it was Lalu & Rabri affairs.
This "Heir Virus" has already infected our Goan politics. Five family
members of congress party in Goa have filled in their forms indicating their
stake in the upcoming assembly election. MGP has already given their party
tickets to brothers for coming election. I wander on what basis congress
party will say no to Rane, Monserrate, Narvenkar, and others?
I personally feel this is a serious issue of our politics. We might have no
control or say in party affairs but we definitely have the final say in
deciding for Heirs or not! Let party decide what they want but we as a voter
must put a stop to dynasty regime OR else the dynasty rule which was
prevailing in India & Goa before British and Portuguese rule respectively
will start once again which will prove quite detrimental to our Goa.

Dr. U. G. Barad
