Congress demands NIA Probe into Missing MPT Missing Passes, Demands Security beef up in Vasco
In light of the of the discovery of over 1200 missing MPT Entry passes and the custody of a terror suspect from Vasco Railway station, it is shocking to see the casual manner in which the MPT Officials as well as the Goa Government’s law enforcement authorities are handling the matter. What sources have informed us is that these passes are used to gain access to the port by people as well as transport vehicles. It has been 10 days since these passes were missing and no one took any action during this time. Even a single pass could be used to transport drugs, illegal items, arms and ammunitions and even explosives. Since Goa is known to be on the terrorist hit list in recent times and that ISIS was operating in Goa, MPT should have taken extra precautions to avoid such lapses. The Carnival Floats are being held in Vasco on Monday, which could be a possible target for terrorists. Even a small explosion could lead to multiple loss of life due to stampedes. The GPCC demands that the security cover be increased during this event. The GPCC further demands that the government order a High Level probe by National Investigations Agency, NIA to enquire who stole these passes and for what were the used. Responsibilities should be affixed and the erring officials too should be booked under terror laws. This investigation cannot be left in the hands of the State police or even the local unit of Central Industrial Security Force which has shown no urgency in stopping this shocking crime to happen within its own jurisdiction. If the State Government fails to initiate an high level investigation into the matter within 7 days, this will prove that the BJP led State government is not serious about Goa’s security and the GPCC will directly take the matter up with the Central Government. -Avinash Tavares Congress Spokesperson
