Descendants of Kannada heritage known asSaundecars/Sondekars are lingayats,
Lingayatism or Lingayat is a religion thatwas founded in the 12th century by
Guru Basaveshwara who was a "Brahmin bybirth". Contemporary Lingayatism is a
rich blend of reform-based theology. It is a religion like
Buddhism,Christianity, Islam, Sikhism etc by virtue of having its own
metaphysicaltheories. And having gone through centuries of Portuguese remold
they too were/are considered Ethnic Goans.
Now lets go to October 16th, 1345, Nawab Jamaluddin mounted  twopronged attack
simultaneously on Gopapura(Gove-Goa Velha) and Chandrapura(Chandor) in which
the newly crowned King His Royal Highness Suriyadeva wasslain, prominent writer
‘Moraes’ in his'Kadamba Kula' says the Queen who was away, arrived few days
later she came toknow of the treachery and the death of her husband. The
distraught queen brokeher bangles on the stone in front of the Santiago Chapel
on the Chandor CottaKadamba gate and dusting her heels (three times) because
she did not even wantto carry the dust of the wretched city of Chandor on her
feet, uttered herfamous curse and was secretly escorted to Jayakeshi I Royal
compound atVilliapura which later came under the Portuguese as  (modern Velim)
and lived there in secrecy guarded by herloyal black smith subjects. In 1347
after the fall of Hangal Kingdom shewas joined by her father His Royal Highness
King Purandarai Deva and nephew ‘Jayeshi’ son of crown prince Shankaradeva whom
she adopted as her son and heir, The descendants continue to live inVelliapura
in their royal compound.  InJan of 2007, after the passing away of his father
who was the 41st successor, his eldest son ‘His Royal Highness SanjayaDeva’ was
pronounced  as the 42ndsuccessor.
They too descendants of Kannada heritage known as ‘Kadambas’. Mayurasharma in
345 CE who felt humiliated. In high rage, the Brahmanadiscontinued his studies,
left Kanchi, swearing vengeance, he founded thisdynasty which at later times
showed the potential of developing into imperialproportions an indication to
which is provided by the titles and epithetsassumed by its rulers. Converted to
Nazarene sect and later to roman Catholicismwhile in Goa having gone
throughcenturies of Portuguese remold they too were/are considered Ethnic
Goans.  Message: 8Date: Fri, 26 Feb 2016 18:04:11 +0000 (UTC)From: "Jeffery S.

text/plain; charset=UTF-8  Just to recap on the Final days of Kadamba
History:Ibn Battuta (b. Tangier, Morocco 1304-1377), thefourteenth-century
Arabtraveller, in his chronicles records that a family feudbetween ?father
andson?? invited the Nawab Jamal-ud-din of Honavar to invadeGoa in 1344. Thishe
apparently refers to one of the sons of Kadamba kingBiradeva(1328-1345), who
wrote to the Nawab Jamaluddin of Honavarinviting him toseize Sindabur, i.e.:
Chandrapura (where Biradeva's crownedprince wasassisting in administering the
city while Biradeva and hisother son werestationed at Govapura), promising that
he would embraceIslam and marry theNawab's sister. Jamaluddin, accordingly
equipped a fleet of52 sailingvessels to attack Gopaka. On Battuta expressing
his wish tojoin theexpedition, was made commander of the fleet
underJamaluddin?s supervision. However, Jamaluddin, instead of attacking
Chandrapura,attacksGopaura/Gopaka (sometime after monsoon in 1344) forcing
theking to flee toChandrapura and from there Biradeva mounts a counter
attackand issuccessful in evicting Jamaluddin from Govapura/Gopaka.Yet, urged
by the second son the conspirator, next year,October 16, 1345Jamaludding mounts
a second attack, perhaps simultaneouslyon Goapura andChandrapura. By this time,
Biradeva had died and his youngson Suriyadevawas newly crowned. On the midnight
of October 16, 1345, itis saidJamaluddin mounted a two pronged attack
simultaneously onGopapura(Gove-Goa Velha) and Chandrapura (Chandor) in which
thenewly crowned youngking Siriyadeva was slain (as per oral tradition
of'internal conspiracy',by his own Chardo palace guards who slew the king with
hisown royal sword)and with him all the male members of the Kadamba family
werekilled. It isnot very clear if Suriyadeva was killed at Chandrapura or
atGove. Hisyoung queen was away at her father's palace at Hangal.Family
tradition hasit that a messenger was sent to bring her back, and shehurried and
arrivedat Chandrapura on 18th October, 1345 (Moraes in his 'KadambaKula' says
thequeen who was away, arrived few days later) and only thenshe came to knowof
the treachery and the death of her husband. Prior to herarrival, allthe females
of the Royal court had ground their jewellry, tossed the powderin the river and
jumped after, and had killed themselves. The distraughtqueen broke her bangles
on the stone in front of theSantiago Chapel on theChandor Cotta Kadamba gate
and dusting her heels (three orfour times)because she did not even want to
carry the dust of thewretched city ofChandor on her feet, uttered her famous
curse and wassecretly escorted toJayakeshi I Royal compound at Villiapura
(modern Velim) andlived there insecrecy guarded by her loyal black smith
subjects. Later shewas joined byher father and nephew whom she adopted as her
son and heirand this way theHangal and Goa Kadamba lineage continued and extant
to thisday.MD
