There is an interesting question asked and answered on Quora, a site from which
FN recently revealed, some good information and opinions can be viewed.

Q. Will the US continue to be the greatest country in the world in the short,
middle and long term?

A. The US spends far more on R&D than its nearest competitor China, as a
percentage of GNP. This will maintain for it its leading world position in the
short and middle terms. However R&D alone cannot sustain it in the long term
since the country spends more than it earns, as it has been doing for many
years now. That is tantamount to living its glory on the money of its creditors.

Now I understand why Trump has been succeeding as far as he has. He sees
affairs of state like a businessman unlike presidents after Clinton, under
whose watch the current situation has resulted.

A segment of American society has seen the writing on the wall if their country
continues on its profligate path. Whether more join the bandwagon to correct
direction is the difference between a future for that country or not.

"We are the greatest" slogan seems increasingly tarnished for Americans
interested in their future rather than in political correctness.
