Prior to the formation through a memorandum of understanding passed at Caxton Hall in 1966, there were social gatherings held by Goans in the Holland Park area and bigger ones in Manor Park. The Manor Park ones was organised by the East African Catholic Society - primarily Goans...the late Camillo D'Souza, the late Amorito Nazareth and I believe Marcus D'Souza.
When the East African Catholic Society wound down they contributed the balance of their funds towards electrics at the GOA Club House in Beckhenham. In 1984 on a visit from Hong Kong I donated £500 towards a TV and recorder. These along with a safe containing thousands of pounds was stolen allegedly without a break in. An inside job it apparently seems. G. -- DEV BOREM KORUM Gabe Menezes.
