Now, if only Prime Minister Narendra Modi and HRD minister Smriti Irani had studied in a university? Not the "distance education programme" or "external exam" or "five-day Yale degree" kind, but a fully-present, on-campus graduation course. Read on the link -- I was recently told of a story of Goan woman who got her photo with the graduation outfit taken and posted on Facebook. She is not even, I am told, passed SSC in India before coming to Canada as a bride. She got the photo when she died a course in some programs (not a degree). In Canada, even a student passing out of junior high school is said to have "graduated". I met lot of Goans in Dubai who either did their BA or M.A from some of the "branches" of US and Australian universities. These people, rightly or wrongly, say they have degrees from UA or American universities. I did a bit of work for the Canadian University in Dubai, and found out that the university not only helps secure a seat in a Canadian university, mostly in Northern universities and some in Ontario's community colleges but also transfers their credits. I know at least some Goan students from Dubai studying in Toronto. I went to Niagara College and saw many Indian students. I know of a Dubai girl studying in George Brown College in Toronto. Niagara College recently shut down a branch in Saudi Arabia, because oppostion as SA had draconian laws. I know a person who does immigration work, mostly getting students from India, to study in Canada. Educaation has become big business. At one time there were many colleges in Toronto, which were born overnight, which provides visas to Indian students. I met many of them who were largely working at gas stations or at McDonalds, etc. The govt. stepped in and shut down these colleges, which wee money-making scams. Eugene
