How much faith you can repose in your Dcotor ? Two of my close friends were saved from jaws of death or from serious medical and post operative problems. In the first case the patient complained of serious abdominal pain, but was treated with pain relievers and sent back a number of times. Visits were repeated several times, until it became unbearable and relatives wisely shifted him for another opinion. By that time the swollen infected appendix had burst and anxious moments followed., Fortunately the patient came out by the grace of God in common man parlance, but not before incurring financial burden and time in recovery and after care
In another similar case with similar systems of abdominal pain was being treated for food poisoning for more than two days ,with loose motion and serious abdominal pain, Fortunately the MRI and sonography undertaken by the Hospital did not reveal anything according to the attending Doctor., The parent shifted the child elsewhere, where the Doctor suspected Appendix related symptoms,. Another sonography and scrutiny of previous MRI led to the conclusion and immediate decision to operate At the time of operations, it was observed that appendix had busted two days back and nothing amis was observed by first consulting doctor It is really disturbing that such common , continuing abdominal pains the problem could not be detected by modern means available and even used to detect the cause God forbid the serious consequences that would have followed due to careless attitudes and sheer negligence in both cases. The anxious moments and unwanted expenses, serious consequences could have been avoided, if symptoms were evaluated and ruled out, rather than treating for abdominal pain and food poisoning for too long, Incidentally both the patients were treated in well renowned hospitals and doctors in Mumbai and here right in Goa It was the decision of the relatives to move out and seek alternative opinions, that saved more life threatening situations .Putting too much of faith in Doctor at times can be counterproductive It is always to take a second opinion and you have the right to it without in any way antagonizing your doctor Nelson Lopes Chinchinim
