Dr .Olivio Mascarenhas bid adeus Dr Olivio breathed his last on 19-July 2016 at around 2 p.m, fully conscious to the end. He was ailing for some time , battling between life and death in and out of best hospital . In spite of all the best , available medical treatment his precious innings of his life could not be prolonged. Personally, and at times, he would sincerely request the family not to depend any further on medical intervention, As a medical person himself he understood well the futility , limits and effectiveness of medicines, yet he meekly surrendered to the wishes , giving the family the pleasure of exhausting their efforts and love for him
Dr Olivio over the decades was a faith anchor to many of those afflicted with ill health. In his youthful days, he vigorously pushed himself with mission and determination to extend medical attention, available all times in need. He filled a much needed space for a Doctor at Chinchinim and surrounding areas and his advent was really prophetic. He confidently and very successfully assisted in many safe delivery of births at residences, when hospital deliveries were mostly unheard of and less affordable .He inspired confidence and faith in his patients. He was mild and emphatic listener that patients found a friend to unburdened their pains and sufferings in complete, trust confidence. His approach in treatment was slow and diagnoses accurate. He was most particularly sought after for liver treatment from far and wide and very successfully treated. Doctor did not believe in short gun therapy loading patients unnecessarily with broad spectrum antibiotics. Doctor Olivio never for once believed in self prosperity with his flourishing medical practice. He was considerate, sympathetic, reasonable and fair to those economically and financially handicapped. The grateful patients to day have a wonderful memory of a doctor who identified with them and treated with dignity and never discriminated between patients Even when his personal health was demanding rest and withdrawal from active practice, Doctor Olivio extended his help off and on and limiting his time and never turning back those in waiting. His involvement with patients was real , sincere and honest not motivated with pure gains His patients came from far and wide beyond geographical boundaries of Chinchinim, which showed the faith reposed in him by his patients .The patients adhered to him for life long, because when he felt inadequate he said so and directed them to experts for further consultations. When he finally hanged his stethoscope, his long term ,dependable patients were left orphaned not knowing how to adjust. His loving memory will be entombed in the hearts and minds of all those who came into his circle as friends and patients He is survived by his wife Yvette ,son Erlic, Joycelyn, Natasha and their families Farewell doctor may his soul rest in peace Nelson Lopes.
