The agitation scheduled to commence with a Ribandar Bandh on July 25th has been suspended in view of the directions given by Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar to the Captian of Ports to immediately shift the Casino Deltin Caravela which is currently anchored in the River Mandovi opposite Ribandar.
A 11 member delegation of Ribandar residents including local Corporator Rupesh Halankar and former Corporator Vivina Nasnodkar today called on Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar at his Althinho residence and conveyed their strong displeasure over the Casino anchored at Ribandar which was an environmental nuisance and detrimental to the local fishing community. Local MLA Sidharth Kuncolienkar was also present. Chief Minister Parsekar showed the delegation the copy of the order issued by the government directing the shifting of the Casino from Ribandar. The delegation later called on Goa Governor Mridula Sinha at the Raj Bhavan and submitted a memorandum urging the Governor to prevail on the Government to stop promoting the Casino Culture in the State. Governor Sinha’s attention was drawn that earlier the Congress and now the BJP were feasting and making merry with the abundant kickbacks flowing from the Casinos while once the Paradise of the East, Goa has now sadly become the country’s gambling hub with the allied vices of Prostitution and the Narcotics trade also flourishing while the Crime rate is also on a steep rise.
