Sorry for the late announcement, but just learnt today that the Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, is organizing a Biopic Festival at Sanskriti Bhavan, Patto, Panjim on the 23-24 July 2016. It will be inaugurated at 10.30 am and will have its first session (12 noon to 1.30) with the screening two films, one on 78-year-old Marathi writer (and former Goa Univ head of English Department) Bhalchandra Nemade directed by Prakash Vishwasrao and the other on poet, lyricist and film-director Gulzar (nome d'plume for Sampooran Singh Kalra) directed by Meghana (Nobody Killed Jessica) Gulzar. This will be followed by a discussion. The other films to be screened are on the author who taught numerous languages at Gujarat University and did comparative studies of literature Bholabhai Patel, trade unionist and Leftist poet Narayan Surve, Maharashtra poet Arun Kolatkar, Bengali poet and novelist Sunil Gangopadhyaya, Indian social activist and writer Mahashweta Devi, Konkani author and writer (who also wrote in Marathi and Hindi) Ravindra Kelekar, Punjabi writer and poet Amrita Pritam and Konkani novelist and short story writer Damodar Mauzo (Sunday at 4 pm).
