Selma,

If one becomes intolerant one would be no different
from others who practice religious intolerance. I
think a better approach is to simply not let this
people get away with anti-social or fraudulent
practices just because they are religious. Harmful
religious beliefs and practices should not receive any
kind of immunity from criticism and prosecution any
more. Religion should be treated just like any other
ideology. When it encroaches in an area where it is
irrelevant, as you say, or more importantly,
detrimental and counterproductive, it should be
strongly opposed.
