Goa IT Professionals(GITP) is happy to announce the launch of a project that puts public transport timetables on Google Maps and makes them available to every citizen at their fingertips. This project was executed by a group of Final Year students as part of their curriculum under the guidance of GITP. One member of the group, Mr. Chaitanya Malik, decided to offer the project as a service to Kadamba Transport Corp. and River Navigation department. Time tables, routes and boarding points of these agencies have now been published to Google and can be accessed at http://bit.do/mygoa or maps.google.com or through the Google Maps mobile application. With the convenience of knowing bus and ferry timings as and when needed, the project encourages citizens to prefer public transport over personal vehicles for their daily commute, thereby reducing congestion on our roads. The data presently published consists of 90 bus routes out of 300 and all the ferry routes in Goa. The remaining data will be published over the next 2 months. The data may have a few unintended shortcomings. We request citizens to point them out by sending an email to [email protected]. We highly appreciate the encouragement, dedication and eagerness shown by officials of Kadamba and River Navigation on this project.
This project serves as a classic example of a partnership between Government, professionals and students for the benefit of the state. We call upon more professionals in various engineering fields to contribute back to the society applying their knowledge and experience. GITP also requests applications through our website from IT/MCA/B.E. students who would like to do such projects under the guidance of IT professionals during their academic course.
