People of Chinchinim Village salute the pioneers, visionaries for the proliferation of Portuguese Primary education in the village and beyond. Their private efforts, dedication, commitment and sacrifices are worthy of our appreciation and recognition. Both day and residential schools provided a convenient opportunity for learners. They prepared students for public examination in Permeiro, Secundo Grau, It these qualifications that enabled the students to enter English medium schools or First year of Lyceum at Panjim with admission test, to those who could afford that luxury. In an effort to revive , perpetuate their memories in gratitude for promoting literacy and for inscribing CHINCHINIM on the educational map of Salcette in particular, the villagers have instituted a teacher award including 5 teachers. Prof NAZARIO RODRIGUES Married to Dona Prescilla, he was born on 23-10-1906 and passed away with massive heart failure on20-01-1967, He was exhausted with the joy of having won the historical opinion poll on 19-01-1967, in which he was intimately, passionately involved, He was given a fitting and touching farewell, the coffin draped with the flag of TWO LEAVES, the symbol of opinion poll. Educated at Rachol seminary he was proficient in Portuguese, Latin , French, besides English. He served as the Regidor at Ambaulim, Kepem and also opened a small an Ayurvedic Hospital. The success of coaching his daughter Vanda and neighbors fuelled the demand to establish Lar de St Antonio at Dandeavdoo, Chinchinim.in 1956 which continued until liberation in 1962. and flourished with much appreciation and respect. Students were enrolled from A.V.C, Betul, Paroda,Majorda.. Boarding facility became a necessity. Dona Prescilla, along with Betty, Sandy,, Vanda efficiently managed it. Later sons Anthony, Ivor, Victor, actively participated in supporting his educational venture late Mila cast her angelic spell on the students , He was efficient and professional in approach and was inspired by Tagore and Don Bosco. He lived up to his moto,”THE END CROWNS THE WORK” After liberation New educational Institute was registered in replacement owned by his relative Prof. Antonio Dias, . Prof Nazario was dedicated creative, determined, filled with love and compassion for the marginalized. Prof Nazario was actively involved in social, cultural, religious and economic life of the community He was the first member of Chinchinim Deussua Panchayat and shaped it in the initial stage, Besides the road leading from Dandeavado to Chinchinim,, reversing the frontage of Santa Cruz Chapel in Dandeavado, contributory scheme for death benefit fund, Carnaval Khell Mand continuing to date,, the Progressive Vividkarayakhari Sahakari ( Vikas) Seva Society Ltd all bear his selfless, historical finger prints, a legacy left behind for posterity Prof. OCATVIANO FAUSTINO DA COSTA He was married to Mrs.Maria do Rosario Cota da Costa Prof .Octaviano was born at Sucaldem, Chinchinim on 15-2-1912 and passed away on 22-11-1981 Studied at Rachol Seminary after completing his primary education, as it was the Best education available at that time. He lost his two brothers to the scourge of Cholera and thus did no go back to the Seminary He established a private Primary Portuguese day school in 1937. He successfully prepared students to appear for public Govt Examination Permeiro and Segundo Grau .As students sought enrollment from distance place, he was forced to provide boarding facilities too, after liberation and for sometime he continued with English medium Primary school. he is survived by his family, Thelma, Fatima, Ida, Safira, Bernabe, Odette, Aquaviva and Goretti who are well settled and their children well placed professionally Nelson Lopes Chairman P.C.trust,,
