Even when the evidence is overwhelming scientists and physicians merely assign a high probability to an inference derived from it. What is more, economists assign much lower probability to their inferences than scientists do because, unlike science, the scenarios they have to deal with can never be supported by hard physical evidence. One has to keep this in mind while weighing the dire consequences predicted by economics as opposed to the science of global warming.
