1. TOI 9/5/07. Nearly half page article on India's veritable mobile museum of an aircraft carrier (INS Viraat) which celebrated 20 years service with the Indian Navy yesterday and was with the Royal Navy for 34 years before that. Excerpt: "On August 1987 INS Viraat arrived off Mumbai [after refitting, refurbishing and a shakedown cruise, all since May 12, 1987 in the UK] AND WAS TAKEN FOR CUSTOMS CLEARANCE TO GOA (emphasis mine)." Is this what they call a printers devil or something? What clearance are they talking about? Note that the carrier's aircraft detail (Sea Harriers, now down to about a dozen all told) is supposedly based in Dabolim. 2. TOI 13/5/07: Humour column by Bachi Karkaria, mostly about the A380 super jumbo in Delhi and Bombay. Excerpt: "Mr. Mallya launched his counter-offensive on Capt.Gopinath during the premier flight from Delhi to Mumbai AND AGAIN WHEN A SMALLER LOAD OF US WAS TAKEN ON A JOY RIDE FROM MUMBAI TO GOA AND BACK." OK so maybe the A380 didnt LAND in Dabolim. But what were the Goan media doing when the plane circled over Calangute or whatever and flew back? Having a siesta? ------------------------------------------------------- Goanet recommends, and is proud to be associated with, 'Domnic's Goa' - A nostalgic romp through a bygone era.
