In the case of Vanita Gaonkar who has applied and was allotted LADLI LAXMI by the Woman and Child Development department ( WCD) due to harassment by her in-laws who were demanding half of the money from one lakh to be given to them, unable to bare the consequences consumed pesticides and attempted suicide and died in Hospital .( from a section of press English daily dated 1.10.2016) In her case it seems as if Ladli Laxmi was a bane and not a boon . Are these social security schemes meant for the welfare of young married couples but in the case of Mrs. Vanita Gaonkar she had to give life due to harassment resulting of Ladli Laxmi allotment. Why are young married couples not self sufficient and cannot pay for their marriage expenditure and upkeep of their early married life, these enticements are boomeranging?
