------------------------------------------------------- CONVENTION OF THE GOAN DIASPORA FROM GOA INTO THE WORLD Lisbon, Portugal June 15-17, 2007 Details at: http://www.goacom.org/casa-de-goa/noticias.html -------------------------------------------------------
Dear Editor, Margaret Alva's recent attack on Churchill Alemao, as reported both in the Press and in the electronic media, is a typical example of the double talk indulged in by the Congress Party. On the one hand, Churchill is alleged to have begged Sonia Gandhi, on his knees, to save Goa from the BJP; while on the other hand, Margaret Alva accuses the same Churchill of forming the Save Goa Front in order to split the minority votes to benefit the BJP in the forthcoming elections. This simply does not add up. Alva further asks - "Save Goa from whom? And from what?. Surely, she cannot be so blind as to be unaware that the Congress has practically sold Goa to the builders and industrialists and the mafia from Delhi and Mumbai. Is she not aware that the Goa Bachao Abhiyan was a spontaneous movement of the citizens of Goa, irrespective of party affiliations, to save Goa's natural environment, her cultural heritage and her peace and serenity from the rapacious hands of predators? Churchill might have expropriated the name of the Save Goa Movement, but Margaret should be told in no uncertain terms that it is her Congress Party, under the weak-kneed leadership of a spineless Pratapsing Rane which has caused more damage to Goa than any other political party, including the BJP. We see that the "High Command" of the Congress Party has once again fielded the same corrupt buccaneers to fight the forthcoming elections in early June. We know, from whom Goa has to be saved !
