Joaquim Correia <joacorr...@yahoo.com> is keen to learn about how youngsters in Goa, Daman and Diu entertained themselves in the pre-1961 era. If you, or anyone you knew, was part of this period, please do share your memories. You can also send in a copy to goa...@goanet.org -- just for the pleasure of sharing and collective learning.
What music did the youth then listen and dance to at the parties, clubs, cinemas, or even the beaches? Did they meet in cafes or restaurants, and if so, which? What do you know about style of dressing? Did they followed the fashions of the young elsewhere (rock and roll, etc)? Joaquim Correia would also like to explore is make a list of names (and, if possible, other information such as the names of the musicians, what songs they played or sang in Portuguese, English or Konkani, etc), of the bands (conjuntos) that used to play on those parties. Did some of them play rock and roll or other Western music? Correia says: "I already found these six names, but I am sure that there were much more: Johson & His Jolly Boys, Forsu Irmão (Brother Francis), Bobby's Melody Makers, Radio Serenades, Luis & His Melodies, Ignatius & His Swing Band, Remo Fernandes and Beat Four." [Just an aside: Wouldn't Remo Fernandes/Beat Four be from the later 1960s?] Do share what you know.
