------------------------------------------------------- CONVENTION OF THE GOAN DIASPORA FROM GOA INTO THE WORLD Lisbon, Portugal June 15-17, 2007 Details at: http://www.goacom.org/casa-de-goa/noticias.html -------------------------------------------------------
Frederick Noronha 1: The issue was how to deal with unsourced reproductions on the Net. 2: We are still finding varying solutions coming up... not just the cease-and-desist-notices that Dr Santosh was pointing to, from some university template. 3: I can't imagine the logic of copyright laws which promise to "promote creativity" by keeping blocks on reproducing content even 70 years after the death of the author! Unlike Dr Santosh, I don't have faith in that god called Copyright. FN Santosh Helekar correctly notes: 1: The issue was deceiving readers into believing that the poster was the original writer. It was also how to deal with people like Kenneth who commit blatant plagiarism. 2: It is disappointing to see Frederick confuse the issue again with copyright, God, some university's cease and desist letter, Microsoft, etc. jc's 2 cents worth: I don't know why on earth FN continues to obfuscate the matter of Plagiarism with that Copyright. What is it that FN does not understand about Plagiarism? Is 'royalty' the issue in Plagiarism as it is in Copyright? Is 'access to information' the issue Plagiarism as it is in Copyright? Does the University ban on Plagiarism mean that 'material' from A cannot be used by B? All that is being demanded is that the Source of the Info should be Credited to the author/site/book/publication (if known). Also being said is that 'Not giving due credit' is equivalent to passing off the work of others .... as your own. That, the Universities are now insisting, is Deceit! Does Fred disagree with that? jc ps: Now ... Kenneth may have not intended to plagiarise. He regularly sends out material from other sources .... because he finds it interesting & probably feels that We'd be interested too. kenneth can correct this particular incident by stating so and confirming that he did not intend to take credit for the work of another ------------------------------------------------------- Goanet recommends, and is proud to be associated with, 'Domnic's Goa' - A nostalgic romp through a bygone era.
