The death of legendary revolutionary leader of Cuba Fidel Castro does it mean
the end of the socialism in Cuba? Castro was an international figure inspiring
many in the quest of a better life for all. Unfortunately he was not well
received by the US that plotted the 5 decades of economic isolation of the
island. President Obama tried his best to overturn this ruling, but
unfortunately managed to only get the embassies installed.
Castro legacy was such that it inspired many around the world and even in Goa.
In the late sixties to the eighties saw the establishment of the Indo Cuban
Solidarity Centre in Goa, which annually celebrated the 26th of July day that
marked the overthrow of the Batista regime on that island, besides conducting
many cultural events. After the fall of the Soviet Union, Cuba was in deep
crisis. Goa contributed in a small way by sending a ship load of medicines to
the island. The person behind these efforts was Dr. Eduardo Dias.
