Roland

Till the time I was in Bombay, Byculla Railway Station was the hub of area
activity. Not only did it serve as a local train station , but also a a
shunting yard for fresh fruit coming from the hinterland for delivery to the
Byculla Wholesale Fruit & Vegetable Market, just next to the rail tracks........

GL responds:
Very nice article. Brought back a lot of good memories.
My residence was at the other end of the Byculla Bridge and hence my stomping
ground was Clare Road, Sankli street and Christ Church Road. As and extension
we went to Sodality House and the across the other bridge to St. Mary's Church
in Mazagon.  Besides getting to the Byculla train station we crossed the bridge
to get to Gloria church to visit our friends at Byculla station and Victoria
Gardens.

Responding to Roland's second post on this topic, my comment about replacing
the old Railway station (albeit nostalgic), is to make the point about the need
to modernize.  Do Gonetters still hold on to their first computers.  Would
patients want their hospital to hold on and operate its 100-year old X-ray
unit?  My comments were strictly limited to the railways and the
recommendations of the researchers;  while you were waxing eloquently about the
environs and neighborhood.

I will concede hands down that Byculla station neighborhood had and continue to
have the best looking girls.  Are you happy Roland?

Regards, GL
