LIFE MEMBERSHIP OF IOA No doubt it is a private organization free from interference of Govt, but for its very sustenance, it has to look up to the Govt. for funds for its activities, It does not mean therefore it can run roughshod of niceties expected of such prestigious body to have covered with disgrace in its functions
How could the honourable members numbering 142 could ever bring to discussing of conferring life membership of IOA on Suresh Klamadi and A Chautala, when they have been dishonoured with monumental scams which are yet to be finalized.? There seems to have been no dissent to this blunder on agenda, except for Mr Batra, who was absent at the meet , called it shameful and has promised to make public all names of members. It happens only on India as they say,. as there is no parallel to such action. They could have waited a minute longer or till they were honourably discharged by the pending court verdict, in stead of rushing in a tearing hurry .The argument that both of them have contributed immensely to the infrastructure development of sports in India, does not absolve them of crimes of corruption or minimize their guilt or crown their malfide actions with glory The spirited , sustained campaign mounted by electronic media in particular and social media too has rattled both the nominees .Kalmadi has been quick with the halo of gracious gesture to relinquish the honour, with a rider not to claim the honorific title until he is declared not guilty .But on the other hand Chautala have decided to brazen it out and even declared to take legal actions against the sports Minister for interfering in the affairs of a private organization. The mounting, legitimate pressure which makes India look ridiculous in the eyes of International Olympic Association will weigh heavily on his decision to stay put. It is surprising and shocking that all the 142 members of IOA while giving their consent without dissent to this ignominious act remained unfazed with no prick of conscience to this blatant voice of acquiescence ? Will the Govt act tough and disband the committee, in stead of serving mere show cause notice the process lingering on? Is it possible that the IOA members were indebted for past favours in arriving at this decision of conferring life membership of IOA or is it a ploy to call it a gracious exit to somehow cover the shame of corruptions involved?
