Like elsewhere in the country, the Congress Party in Goa is in total disarray and almost gone to the dogs, perhaps waiting to be laid to inglorious rest in some gutter. The party has miserably failed to get a leader with a clear conscience and courage who with concrete and swift surgical measures could remove the widespread cancerous growth within.
Over the last five years the Congress as the Opposition party in Goa has abdicated its responsibility and desolate disaster on every front. The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) headed by the very dormant Pratapsingh Rane has not had a single meeting attended by all its handful of MLAs. And with most Congress MLA’s having gory skeletons galore, the BJP government was successfully able to silence them to oblivion. Reginaldo Lourenco has been the only Congress MLA who consistently and fearlessly took on the misdeeds of the BJP Government. And if it was not for the very vocal Independent MLAs Naresh Sawal, Rohan Khaunte and Vijai Sardessai the government would have had a field’s day. A politically fossilised Luizinho Faleiro was on one hand, ejaculating verbal secretions of inducting new fresh faces, while on the other, selfishly schemed to himself contest from Navelim. To save himself from the fear of the impending criminal charges, Luizinho Faleiro has deviously sold the Congress. For Goa to move ahead there was need for unanimity that those above 60 respectably hanged their boots and opted for political rest while possibly now babysitting their grandchildren. It was also incumbent that the new faces fielded should not have been political proxies but worthy persons with credibility and chances of winniability. But with some geriatric senile faces not having been rested and several nonentities planted as candidates, the Congress coffin will now overflow with the garbage of old 'loyal soldiers of the party' and some dead wood by way of new faces for all to see. And no tears may be shed nor final respects be paid to those leaders of loot including Luizinho Faleiro who rode from Rags to Riches.
