FINAL WEEK: V&A evening and Burgh House Retracing Ribeiro exhibition The Retracing Ribeiro project explores the artistic and cultural heritage of the prolific Indian modern artist, Lancelot Ribeiro through an exploration of his art and poignant archive. In association with the British Museum, Burgh House Museum, Camden Archives, Central Saint Martins and the V&A, this project forms part of the 2017 UK-India Year of Culture. The exhibition at Burgh House presents a few iconic pieces selected from this artist’s body of work alongside the limited series of naturalistic watercolours, inspired by Hampstead Heath, as well as archival material from the family collection.
Now in its final weeks, the V&A’s cultural evening, ‘Ribeiro: A Celebration of Life, Love and Passion’ is being held on 16 March 2017 to coincide with the final week of the Burgh House Retracing Ribeiro exhibition. Regarded as the godfather to a generation of artists using acrylics as an alternative to oils, the evening explores his life, his work in the V&A and his rare but lesser known pieces. Ribeiro: A Lifetime of Experiment - From Bombay to the V&A David Buckman, arts writer, journalist and author of ‘Lancelot Ribeiro: An Indian Artist in India and Europe’, will explore the artist’s journey of experimentation towards the three newly-acquired iconic paintings in the V&A’s South Asian collection. Ribeiro: Music and Art - The ‘Crushed Crystal Sound of Colour’ Gerard McBurney, writer, broadcaster and composer, will revisit his “strange but beautiful” encounter with Ribeiro to explore the interplay between music and art.
