--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RELOCATION OF CASINOS AT RIVER MANDOVI BY NEW GOVERNMENT ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The people of Goa have voted for a new dispensation in which the Congress found favour in the majority of the constituencies and is thus in a position to form the new Government. Being Panjimite special emphasis has to be given to the promise made by the Congress in the manifesto regarding the contentions issue of casinos. GPCC President and the new MLA of Navelim Luizinho Faleiro had promised that the Casinos would be relocated. The people of Panjim expect him to translate words into action since the casino issue is very dear to the people of Panjim who have to only contend with eyesore of casinos in the river Mandovi but also the fact that the Casinos have blocked the mouth of the river Mandovi. Although the offshore casinos have obtained licences and the sixth one is due to be in the river Mandovi , still as a minimum measure if not relocating the casinos, they have to be shifted at least 3 nautical miles from their existing locations. It would be in the fitness of things that Luizinho Faleiro and to be formed Congress government should keep this promise so that the grievance of the people of Panjim is addressed and thus brings about welcome news for the residents of the capital city of Panjim. Shifting the casinos three nautical miles away from their present location will still be able to generate revenue for the cash strapped economy of the state of Goa, which is running on borrowed finances, so as at least the people of Panjim expect to be formed Congress government to give them the welcome news of the shifting of the casinos. As a first measure it will be justice to the people of Panjim who have borne this burden for a long time and which the previous Government have not acted.
