Is BJP really communal ?
As a kid, we always thought MGP or Lion (Shiv) or Maharastrawadi Gomantak
Party belongs to
Marathas or Hindus so it got to be Communal. As we grow older, during Konkani
Language
agitation 1987 etc, we had even more reasons to believe that MGP is really
communal. We took
Marathi belongs to Hindus (MGP) and Konkani belongs to Christians. And hence
there is a fight
between Hindus and Christians in the name of Konkani or official language of
Goa.
After some years, we read in newspapers etc about the activities of Shiv Sena
and BJP outside
Goa. At this time we said to ourselves, Shiv Sena is worst than MGP and BJP.
During election time those days, we knew some BJP (and Shiv Sena) candidates
contesting for
Goa Assembly seats. We said there is no way these people win the election in
Goa purely
because they are communal. But to our surprise, there were about 4 winning
seats by the BJP.
And during the subsequent elections, the BJP strength rose to about 19
including some
Christian MLAs. At this time we hardly talked about the then communal party MGP
as its
strength was reduced to a minimum. So, MGP gone out of our mind but BJP
remained as communal
party now. I treated BJP as 100% communal mainly because of the happenings
elsewhere in India.
BJP came to power in Goa around 2002, after seeing the development within the
short period of
time etc , I thought may be BJP is communal only out side Goa . At this time I
treated BJP as
50% communal. But after spending over a year in Goa, I really thought BJP in
Goa is not
communal at all but reading various reports and postings (including Goanet and
other
yahoogroups etc ), I reluctantly treated BJP as 20% communal.
When I wrote to Parrikar then CM of Goa (Jan.2004) to do something about the
forthcoming
Anjediva Island feast i.e. Feb2, he replied to me saying it was too late now
(18 years old
matter) and nothing can be done now (see proof below).
Again, in late Jan. 2007, Parrikar being in the opposition, he wrote a letter
to Godfrey
Gonsalves on the same Anjediva Island Feast matter saying.. the matter is now
sent to Union
Defence Minister Shri AK Anthony (see proof below).
My question to Parrikar..
While you were the CM of Goa, you said it was too late..
And now that you are in the opposition, (matter is 21 years old now) suddenly
you thought it
was not too late ?
At this time my treatment to BJP gone up from 20% to 60% communal.
But then again, after sometime, I realized that BJP as opportunist like any
other parties
or politicians so I am back to 20%.
Today, after reading a news item in GT front page captioned BJP Scraps
Taleigao Block my
trust in BJP has shrunken again . It says face with rebellion against its
official
candidate, the BJP yesterday dissolved its Taleigao Mandal Committee headed by
Pradip
Nagvenkar citing the committees non-coopeation in the constituency for the
june 2 goa Assemly
elections.
Mr. Pradip Nagvenkar told GT that he is still with BJP and was opposed to
partys decision of
fielding a Christian candidate in Taleigao. He said that as a hardcore RSS
activist aad
staunch proponent of the Hindutva philosophy he felt it was improper to work
for Agnelo
Silveira as partys candidate in Taleigao.

I am really confused now. Do all people within the BJP think likewise (Re.
Pradip Nagvenkar) ?
But one thing is true..
To get a real picture of Goa, one has to be in Goa.
