Frustrations and disappointments of voters The recent coalition of BJP with GFP and MGP have caused great anguish among the voters. They have gone against all their manifestos and promises on the basis of which voters cast their votes. They had public and corner meetings to convince about their stand, but after elections they take the voters for granted, knowing well that they have now no voice to oppose their personal agenda. They hold meetings only at their residences with their henchmen, besides press notes to explains their U turns Remember how many days of campaigning took place, visiting voters, contacting through emails and phones, lettres, pamlhlets, but what has been the procedure in matter of hours to take U turns and invoke arbitrarily the consent of voters ?
The parties were daggers drawn in opposing each other tooth and nail with no holes barred campaign. But after coalition they are singing praises of their bitter opponents, clothing them with robes of admiration' and leaving the voters shell shocked and speechless..The NOTA provision is meaningless, except that it satisfies the voter personally that his conscience is heeded. The votes under NOTA should at least be subtracted equally from all the candidates. .In future and under circumstances of behavior of parties it may be best not to cast the votes at all and thus insulate the voter against frustrations and disappointments After all the mandate of the voters is murdered by realignment for personal gains. It is the same with all the parties when it comes to sharing the loaves of the office The Congress which was decimated last time was given a fresh lease and it was expected that they had learnt the bitter lesson by being unemployed. All the talk of young blood was thrown to the winds .The so called grandfathers analogy is totally relevant, The mix and concotion of old and young was considered elixir of success, but on the contrary it has brought disaster by infighting to grab high position, as was foretold. The candidates want to die with boots on and do not want to relinquish power. One alternative could be for all parties not to field candidates for more than 3 terms whether continuous or broken. The decision on coalition must follow the same procedure of elections with the party and voters. Undertaking from candidates not to flout party discipline, Candidates who disagree with party policies after the elections must be subjected to reelections and also all those who break the party Elections have turned out to be big farce to fool the voters after elections by lending outside support. Take a referendum by votes for change of heart from the constituents and not assume their consent The voters are disillusioned with current situations and are bound to keep away from process, After all what does it matter whether you vote or not. The electors are kings to decide for themselves ignoring the voters The provision for recall clamored by many is not practical at all. NOTA votes must be taken into considerations and not ignored as na academic exercise in futility Nelson Lopes Chinchinm
