Dear Navhind Times Editor Attn: Arun Sinha
It is very difficult for me to get into the column of any newspapers of Goa nowadays. But I decided at least to venture now, since I read very important Editorial column in Navhind Times today 31.3..2017 title " MAKING DRIVERS FOLLOW ROAD TRAFFIC RULES" '. After reading it, I was surprised a number of accidents have taken place in Goa, and NT has elaborated and well reported its findings . Let me project some vehicular hazards which I have encountered in Dona Paula area itself.. Vehicular traffic coming from Bambolim to Dona Paula, the roads have been widen and are so good and not like the one from Dona Paula to Miramar ( I called it jumping road) but still accidents are taking place. It is pity that many youngsters dies with no reason at their own but mainly due to the bad planning of dividers and their gaps/slots. I have brought this to the notice of PWD authorities number of times, but still they have turned a nelson eye. Just to please some high politically status people and with the influence from certain politicians these gaps have been arranged in those areas of their interest where there are some religious structure/temple, schools, societies, colonies, big bungalows etc If that was well organised just like what they do in Madras, Bangalore , Pune etc accidents will surely be minimized. Let me mention one area in Dona Paula, the widening is almost completed from Bambolim to Dona Paula circle and exactly when it was precisely required for widening down to slope to the NIO circle, it is due to political pressure just to help one person who owns a restaurant, the widening was put off and the gap is further narrowed down due wrong and broad dimension of that footpath.. Most of the accidents have taken place in this slope and still taking place and many have died or injured due to high speed uncontrolled coming all the way from Bambolim side. If the authorities from PWD follow the proper plan such accidents ratio in Goa as reported by Navhind Times will surely come down. Stephen Dias Resident of Dona Paula Mob: 9422443110 Date: 31.3.2017
