Opposition in democracy is vital for survival For functional Democracy a watchful and strong opposition is required. The moment the opposition is reduced to inconsequential levels, it sounds death knell and raises alarm bells in corridors of power. During congress rules of six decades plus the feeble voice of the opposition was simply drowned in the din and dust of numbers in debates ,discussions and legislation that followed. The BJP and others have suffered in the past unable to carry their weight of suggestions or discussions .How many decades it will take the opposition for two party system it is difficult to fathom. It is the division of votes per se with multiplicity of splinter groups of parties that causes the imbalance between and opposition. Parliament had objections even appointing of leader of opposition for non fulfilling of requirements of decimated opposition. The Congress tried defections, sacking of state Governments and BJP is directly or indirectly following the same script and cannot be faulted., The principal goal, strategy of BJP is to decimate and obliterate all opposition in all Sates and mow down opposition so to assume the role of monolith that Congress was earlier. BJP is trying all its energies to marginalize the Gandhi's without whom the Congress party will simple collapse and here is no known leader that enjoys that status of dependence on the first family and neither do they want to encourage leaders. The same is true of one man show of Namo just to win elections and then technically with all his foreign tours most of the time, who is behind the wheels of administration and Government? Similarly there is lack of an alternative leader. flag bearer in BJP of the stature of Namo who can win elections , though a few presumably basking in glory under he shadow of Namo. Regional parties are flavor of the time and are the ebst bet that is seen with AAP, AIADK Taminadu, Trinamol ,Congress in West Bengal, PDP in Kaskmir BSP/SP in UP etc AAP unfortunately is aspiring for National level politics too soon instead of concentrating in Delhi . now tinkering in Tamil nadu Karnataka.The BJP is fomenting trouble everywhere just to finish principal opposition mainly Congress and emerging AAP .With brute majority in UP and in Parliament, we can well judge from the visible signs and the consequences of move towards theocratic state in the womb and ingerminating satge. BJp is trying its best to gain majority in the RajaSabha too , to complete its circle of dominance of power
The casualty will be democracy and all its avowed tenets of freedom, liberty equality and secularism The vociferous attacks on press and electronic media, the judiciary, and law enforcing agencies are eminent signs of decay of Democracy in India setting in to great dismay and apprehensions of all concerned The voters must avoid the dangers of giving absolute mandate to one party dominance and thus suffer in silence the autocratic streaks invading and being all pervasive in all our life styles, food, dress, religion, traditions and customs by legitimate legislations with opposition carrying no weight Nelson Lopes Chinnchinim
