Newspapers and shifting of personal page preferences etc
When at school and college first thing we ever checked on news papers was the
Cinema listing page e.g. Cine Metropole, Cine Vishant, Cine Lata, Cine Vasco,
Gulmarg, Prashant, Asha, Niagara, Alankar, El Capitan, El Dorado, National,
Hira Talkies etc etc

After college this preference shifted to ‘situation vacant’ page looking for
jobs etc
Office Astt / Clerk wanted, Store keeper wanted, Account Asst wanted, Hotel
staff wanted etc

And now, after retiring or even before that, our first preference is Obituary
page to see who has returned to the Lord etc (e.g. natural death ‘old age’,
peaceful death ‘Sick for sometime’, sudden death ‘heart attack, Suicides etc’,
tragic circumstances ‘Road accident etc’)

At our time, there was only one English newspaper i.e. Navhind times and its
cost was just 30p (Now Rs.5)
Most obituary ads now come on Herald.

I think on ethical grounds, all obit ads announcing death with funeral when
booked on one newspaper should also be automatically replicated free of cost on
any one of the advertiser’s choice or NT/H by default. Revenue can be
distributed equally or 60:40 basis amongst the 2 newspapers
E.g. Traditionally, some people are with NT only they should not be made to buy
another newspaper just to see obituary page.
Also, it gets wider publicity.
