The story of the Snake and the man called Gull Eeble Gull was walking down the road in Tolle-Canto really upset at the situation at hand. The snakes were biting people, the rats were destroying the landscape and the mongoose were wiping out the chicken. There were no animals to be trusted anymore except for the faithful dogs. But they were of no use against the snakes, mongoose and rats. All the dogs did was sit in the shade and bark Bow Wow Wow. As he reached by the 'tinto', Gull came across this snake lying by the roadside. The snake called out to Gull and said: Gull, my friend' - help me, I am wounded. Gull said to him: I cannot. The last time I helped you, you bit me. The snake replied: I know, I am sorry. it was a mistake in my part. I don't know what came upon me. I promise, I will never do that again to you. Help me. I will even go fight for you against the mongoose who are eating your chicken and the rats destroying your paddy fields. So ... Gull Eeble paused for a while, thought of the advantages to himself and said: OK Gull Eeble took the snake to his house, looked after him and even fed him on a diet of milk, honey, multivitamins and Horlicks. They became good friends. Went on long walks together and had long chats about how beautiful and golden Tolle-Canto could be. It was a cold night and the snake was shivering in his basket. So, he asked if he could sleep the night under the blanket in the bed with Gull Eeble. Gull Eeble said: Sure, my friend, Sure. The clock struck 12 and Gull Eeble was woken by the chime. As he opened his eyes, he saw the snake in front of his face. What happened? You too cannot sleep?: asked Gull eeble of the snake. The snake kept silent for a minute and then bit Gull Eeble. As Gull lay there in pain - with the light fading in front of his eyes - He asked the snake: WHY did you bite me of all the people. You were lying injured on the road when I picked you up and looked after you etc etc. The snake looked at Gull Eeble and told him: My friend, I am a snake. A snake will always be a snake. If you are stupid enough to trust a snake, you deserve to be bitten. And with that - the snake bit Gull Eeble again and left to go about his business. Gull Eeble passed away painfully. In his will, he left all his belongings to the snake.
