LED STREET LIGHTS Ref : Herald letters to the editor column on this Thursday.
With reference to the letter written by Paul Pereira from Velim I may add probably an important failure of these LED bulbs installed at various parts at Tiswadi area. Earlier, just when these lights were installed in Mala area prior to elections, I was happy that at least we are going into a latest technology in Goa, which we were awaiting for quite a long time. When I happened to meet an Engineer of Electricity Dept I asked the question " When are we going to get these LED's lights installed in Taleigao in my constituency? ". His answer was, "May be after the election results once a new stock is received". The very next day of installation I saw one of the street LED light flickering in Mala- Fontainhas. In my opinion the flickering could be due to low voltage or loose connection or the inferior quality of the bulb. Just yesterday when I was passing through the Taleigao inner road leading to Dona Paula I saw near the Electrical Taleigao sub station there were three LED street lights flickering similar to the one at Mala. I taught for myself when all other street lights were well, why only a few of them were seen flickering? That means, either they are not of ISI mark or of substandard inferior quality or again loose connection. When they are within the warranty period, I suggest that Electricity Dept to put on sophisticated test mode and verify these LED lamps supply in random, or return them if found of substandard quality. Hope the Govt will take immediate measures to rectify its fault, if any, before it is too late so that the public exchequer funds are not wasted, especially when the installation is going to catch up in whole of Goa.
