Dear Nelson,
Please don't mind the correction, but a polite way of describing a person who
is dumb is "mute".

Therefore your post title should be A Mute Can Be A Priest.

A person who is both deaf and dumb is a Deaf Mute. If you want to go the extra
polite route you can say "hearing and speech impaired", though deaf mutes and
other people with disabilities are ok with real but polite words like blind,
mute and deaf.

To those who have all senses, it is unimaginable for one to function with two
or more absent, but I have seen in Toronto more than a few deaf-blind mutes
functioning to near normality, thanks to modern technology, good teachers and
of course a country which treats its weak links with the attention they earn
and deserve.

Roland Francis
Toronto.
