Is it not an irony that BJP's political joker Dattaprasad Naik has today sought Babu Kavlekar's resignation for his alleged Matka links.
With Political patronage of successive goverments, Dattaprasad Naik and his family have been for decades involved in the rampant sale of that horrifying illicit liquor which is a much bigger crime for which he should have been jailed for life in the misery caused to gullible tourists. Dattaprasad Naik openly sells duplicate liquor at his two outlets ( Wine Palace) located behind the Directorate of Health Services in Panaji and also (Wine Palace) at Sapna Habitat on Chogm Road at Porvorim. Dattaprasad Naik’s father Madhukar Naik who is a veteran in duplicate liquor also runs an outlet (Royal Wines) very close to the Panaji Market near Geeta Bakery. The notorious credentials of all these outlets being known to the locals, they are visited only by flocks of tourists who are taken for a ride. During Manohar Parrikar’s first stint as Chief Minister these outlets were raided and they were penalized for selling duplicate adulterated liquor. Infact when Manohar Parrikar lost power on 2nd February 2005 Madhukar Naik and Dattaprasad Naik celebrated and jubilated in the city by bursting a load of crackers. Over the years the Naik family being involved in this illegal sale of duplicate liquor have conveniently moved around like chameleons from party to party to be in good books with every Chief Minister in power. Like bees they opportunely stayed glued to the King on the throne so that their Wine Palaces continued thriving uninterruptedly minting money on duplicate liquor.
