Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar must be condemned for having succumbed to the highhanded pressure of his very fishy Fisheries Minister Vinod Paliencar and shunted out the very honest and upright Director of Fisheries Shamila Monteiro.
This sordid episode has also further exposed Vijai Sardesai’s Goa Forward hoax about promoting Goem, Goenkar and Goenkarponn. Fisheries Minister Vinod Paliencar wanted Shamila Monteiro removed as she had bluntly refused to register trawlers brought from other states including Maharashtra and Karnataka. The registering of those trawlers in Goa is not permissible under the Goa Fisheries Act. The man behind the scene who wanted these outstation trawlers registered in Goa is the Margao based middle man Ibrahim, a business partner and collection agent cum henchman of Town & Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardesai. To help our local fisherman Shamila Monteiro was also keen to bring the Margao SGPDA fish wholesale market under the Fisheries Department. But this was opposed by Vijai’s henchman Ibrahim who is currently a Fish Lord virtually having monopolized the SGPDA wholesale fish market and collecting huge protection money from vehicles coming from other states. These outstation fish vehicles flood the Margao fish wholesale market by 1am leaving no room for our Goan fishermen to carry on their business. Shamila Monteiro was also in the process of helping the local Goan fishermen by increasing their subsidies but this too was stalled by the Fisheries Minister Vinod Paliencar at the behest of that Fish Lord Ibrahim. Yet another glaring example as to how in the name of Goem, Goenkar and Goenkarponn it has been Fot, Foting and Fotingponn all the way. The Wily Vijai Sardesai now stands only further exposed and should hang his head in Shame.
