A short comment - This High Court ruling most likely will have no effect whatsoever on Goa’s bleak future. Poetry from the justices’s pen may make you feel good, but it doesn’t alter reality. Goa has already been laid to waste. The biggest blunder of 1961 was acceding to India without putting in place any protections, in particular limiting in-migration and prohibiting the sale of Goan land. As a result, today we have pigs from Delhi running wild in Goa, owning a good chunk of our real estate. India, thank you for NOTHING.
As I have said many times before, the primary blame lies with us Goans. If we had gotten our act together, we would not be at this pass. We didn’t have to agree on everything, just on the basics. But we couldn’t help being the fractious lot that we are. As an Indian institution, the judiciary has been a miserable failure for Goa, an honest justice here and there notwithstanding. So, hold on to that champagne and put it back in the refrigerator. There’s nothing to celebrate. Manoharwa the rascal may have been c*ck-blocked this time around, but he has multiple other options to screw Goa. r
