I've heard a lot of fanciful interpretations about the origins of words and names, and we in our part of the world seem to be particularly good at creating that. For instance, a journalist friend once mentioned that Loutolim and Cortalim (traced by some to Lavasthal and Kushasthal) were named after the twin sons of Lord Ram -- Lav and Kush (Lava and Kusa).
Another person I know once mentioned shock and ridicule that the Salcete village along the Margao-Canacona highway could be called Dramapur, when it should have been Dharmapur! But why look only at Dharma and not Dhamma, itself a prominent concept in Buddhism which played its role in Goa too at one time. Guess we could believe anything we want to.
