PADMATI HEAVES A SIGH…… “Padmati, Queen is your pride,
History for long set me aside, Call me beloved Queen you don`t want to be seen. For centuries she remained dormant in annals of history. Even the history does not record her by a worthy of mention, Those that like to claim and own her have done precious little to elevate her heroism for public admiration..There are no monuments or other visible edifices that revive her glorious past. She is also dead to history it seems as her scanty mention is also very late after centuries.. of omission. At least Bansal tried to bring her in the eyes of Indian public and royal controversies are debatable. The violent resentment with threats and intimidation of physical harm are absolutely misplaced. Other than protests what are plans afoot to give her the credit that has eluded for centuries in silence?. Her heroism as it is publicly resounding is about her suicide with others after the defeat of Mewar King.. Sati was very much prevalent at those times as a honourable cultural tradition, Her desire not to be subjected to life of servitude at the hands of lecherous Khilji was dominant issue on her mind and hence heroic act of death. We appear to be hypocritical as far as gender bias is concerned , Queen at best be considered epitome of femininity .Girl child is destroyed in the womb by foeticide by her own mother under pressure. Sex determination is to eliminate the girl to be born. Child marriages are so inhuman to the girl. Neglect of girl, discrimination leads to early infant mortality. Harassment of women for dowry and deaths are so common phenomenon. Violence against women, sexual crimes, rapes against even innocent children are a legend Traffic of women, even minors is disturbing. Selective bias against women employment, equal remuneration shows our attitudinal discomfort.. Inheritance laws are heavily loaded against women for equal rights as citizens. After marriage their dominance by male members in the family is sad commentary about women empowerment .If Padmati, the queen is to be honoured ,recognized, respected as a female , then attitudes of males must undergo sea change All the violence, destruction and hangama in honour of Queen ,Padmavati appears ludicrous, publicity seeking, self-serving exercise in futility .The action is grossly disproportionate. Film is not the same as documentary. Bring out a documentary to project her rightly, In the mean time boycott the film, which the protesters have not even seen Nelson Lopes Chinchinim
