Good pick up Gabe.  Yet just to be precise:
Human Civilization (living in complex communities) is 6000 years old
Homo erectus started about 3 million years go as hunter-gatherersH. erectus
started moving out of Africa one million years agoH. sapiens started half a
million years agoH. sapiens sapiens started half a million years ago. (nomadic
life)Start of agriculture 10,000 years ago.
As a topic of interest for many East African Goans here is an extract from
Leakey's book.

"Close to three million years ago, on a campsite near the east shore of Kenya's
spectacular lake Turkana, formerly Lake Rudolph, a primitive human picked up a
water-smooth stone, and with a few skillful strikes transformed it into an
implement. What was once an accident of nature was now a piece of deliberate
technology, to be used to fashion a stick for digging up roots, or to slice the
flesh of a dead animal.  Soon discarded by its maker, the stone tool still
exists, an unbreakable links with our ancestors.  Together with many others,
that tool is preserved in the National Museums of Kenya in Nairobi."
I will leave it to our resident-expert(s) on the "Human Soul" on Goanet to tell
us when the human soul came into existence.  Mortals like us live life
day-to-day.  And hope for "the best-of- tomorrow" in this world and the next.

Regards, GL

RESPONSE: Planet Earth is 4.5 billion years old! Humanity as we know it is
6,000 years old. A slip of the tongue could lend you in deep sh*%?

------------------------From: Mervyn Lobo

It is written in the Bible that only 144,000 people will be in heaven.  Since
planet earth is 6,000 years old and say a dozen or two dozen people -  from the
55 million - who die each year are let into heaven, there are still a few
available slots. However, I am perfectly content with life on this planet and
will leave it to others to contend for a spot in heaven.  Hell may also be the
realization that one missed out on a good life on this planet.
