Whenever I am outstation I always travel by Uber or Ola. It is so much safer, cheaper and more convenient. When I return, no such facilities are available. The last time I came back, the taxi operators at the airport were demanding a whopping Rs 2000/- in the night to travel a distance which otherwise would have cost me 1/3rd the cost or even lesser. The lack of app based services puts so much pinch on each of our finances. Why is the Government so hell-bent on appeasing this Taxi Lobby, despite so much bullying by them? Why can't it take decisions for the people instead of for lobbies? Public transportation system in Goa is such a big hassle and the Government sadly does nothing to change this status quo. There is competition in all fields so why exempt only taxi services from it?
On the one hand we are talking of making our cities smart and on the other refusing to bring app based services. Is this not a policy contradiction? Competition will only enhance the Taxi Service Industry. There can be safeguards put to protect local interests. Government can't keep burying its head and pretend the problems do not exist. It needs to work for the common people also and not just the lobbies. Why should the public be taken for granted just to satisfy a select few? Are we not their voters? A Taxi revolution is the need of the hour. High time for the Government to ponder and act! warm regards, Sandeep Heble 9326129171
