Seems India, specifically the state of Maharashtra, has dunderheads for the 
governing class.

How else can one have an explanation for crores of rupees being spent on this 
project and that while 12,000 poor and hardworking farmers, the salt of the 
earth, would be desperate enough to sniff pesticides in order to end their 
lives.

This is not a sudden occurrence. It started as a trickle, no one in a position 
to help them - not the politicians, not the bureaucrats, not any level of 
government would prevent it from turning into a flood of thousands.

Is life in India that cheap where the people who provide food for the 
population are left to die a miserable death?
