I had the privilege of interviewing the General. On a tip from someone, I landed at Oberoi Hotel in Mumbai and asked to meet him. He invited me to his room, and asked me how come I knew he was in town. I think he was on the board of the Oberoi Hotels. He was on his way to Delhi and had come to Mumbai from Pune.
A gentleman to the core and a soldier of highest esteem. He was retired when I met him. His quarrels with the then Defence Minister Krishna Menon were well known. The defeat by China in 1962 put an end to Menon's political career. It was Menon who forced Nehru's hand to invade Goa to boost his election prospects in the 1962 General Elections. He was fighting from North Bombay (I think it was in the Chembr area) against a fierce opponent, Kripalani. It was the greatest election fight in India's political history. The year was 1061. Eugene
