Ambelim. *SESA win tough 4-2 encounter against St. Savio * * Cyrus Noronha scores a brace for the winners * *______________________________________________________________________________________________* *MAY 2, AMBELIM: *SESA FA had a hard fought 4-2 win over St. Savio SC Calangute in the match 4 of the Goa Sevens Premier League, organised by Goa Sevens and Ambelim Sports Club in association with Goa Football Association (GFA) at Ambelim Sports Complex, on Wednesday. Cyrus Noronha scored a brace for the SESA side while Ryan Fernandes and Caitaino Rodrigues scored a goal each, while Pedro Gonsalves scored one goal for the oppposition. The SESA academy side got the game underway with just attack in mind with their skipper Cyrus Noronha leading the team. On the other hand, St. Savio were lead on field by Sidarth Shirodkar. In the 6th minute, Cyrus crossed the ball inside but found his perfect shot blocked by Jerose Oliveira. The SESA side finally took the lead in the 7th minute as Cyrus Noronha neatly netted in off a woodwork shot after receiving a shot pass form Ryan Fernandes. The St. Savio side came close to levelling in the next minute as Dhiraj Chauhan’s back foot was well caught by the SESA custodian Roanal Gaunkar. At the other end, SESA could have doubled their lead but Rovan Pereira played selfish inside the box despite having an unmarked Cyrus inside the danger area. The SESA side made it 2-0 in the 18th minute off a neat free kick taken by Ryan Fernandes which was in no reach of the Calangute keeper. The Calangute side could have reduced the margin just before half time but Shashank Naik failed to connect his pass. The St. Savio side upon resumption of the second half finally managed to pull one goal down after a couple of missed attempts through Pedro Gonsalves whose shot landed into the top corner of the post, 2-1. The second half witnessed a faster game with both teams fighting for the ball. SESA could have added a third goal but Ashley Cardozo found his long shot hit the bar. Sanket Jotkar was fast in his approach for the Calangute team but he missed to convert on two attempts, first shooting wide and next hitting the post. With fast pace attacking in the second half, both sides had their share of chances but failed to convert at either ends. St. Savio finally made it 2-2 as they earned a penalty after Rovan Pereira brought down Pedro Gonsalves and the later made no mistake to score from the spot. When everything was looking to go into a tie breaker, SESA stepped up their boots and netted two quick goals. First Namresh Kundikar scored an own goal giving the SESA side a lead. While in the next minute Cyrus Noronha stepped up and shot fast into the post giving the Academy side a tough 4-2 win over the St. Savio side.
